Advanced Directives

If you are 18 or older and mentally competent, you have the right to make decisions about your medical treatment. In the instance that you are in a situation where you are unable to make decisions regarding your healthcare or treatment, you may want to prepare with either a living will or an advance directive.

An Advance Directive provides specific directives about the course of treatment that is to be followed by health care providers and caregivers in the event you, as a patient, are unable to communicate your wishes.

A healthcare power of attorney is another option in such a scenario.
